About Nancy Crehan, LICSW
Clinician, Build The Self Psychotherapy
Nancy brings more than 30 years of experience supporting individuals and families through serious illness, cancer treatment, palliative care, grief, and end-of-life transitions. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), she is known for her compassionate presence, calm guidance, and ability to help people feel supported during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Nancy’s work has centered on medical and oncology social work across leading healthcare organizations including The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, and South Shore Hospital. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with patients navigating cancer diagnoses, chronic illness, caregiving challenges, anticipatory grief, and the emotional impact of loss.
Nancy currently provides end-of-life and hospice support. She conducts home visits and provides assessment, education, and emotional support to patients and families receiving hospice care. She also supports individuals and loved ones during end-of-life care. Her work includes helping families better understand the dying process, offering grief support, and collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, chaplaincy, and bereavement staff.
Nancy approaches her work with warmth, steadiness, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience. She believes that especially during times of profound illness or loss, people deserve care that honors dignity and connection. In addition to her clinical work, she has facilitated caregiver support groups, provided MSW supervision, and supported healthcare staff, all coping with the emotional demands of end-of-life care.
Nancy earned her Master of Social Work from Boston University School of Social Work and completed a post-graduate certificate program in Palliative and End of Life Care at Smith College.
